Studies have shown that between the ages of 2-6 children are constantly learning. But more importantly, they learn how to learn. We want learning to be fun, challenging and developmentally appropriate. Our goal is to make them learners for life.

3 Important Basics about Child Development:

1. All children will be at different stages of physical and social development.
2. Even children the same age learn at different speeds.
3. All children learn in different ways.

In our Gym-Kats Preschool Gymnastics Program, we do this through the repetition of basic gymnastic drills and skills. Each week different circuits will be set up to accomplish weekly themes. These weekly themes are set up around basic gymnastic concepts such as rolling, balancing, handstands, and landing to name a few. Basic strength and flexibility elements are also included, as well as gymnastic positions. Repeatedly throughout the course of a term, your child will be exposed to a wide variety of physical activities.

Social development at the preschool level goes hand in hand with skill development. For some students this will be their first experience, out of the house, in a structured environment with other children. We will also be incorporating as many classroom concepts as we can. These include listening to the teacher, following directions, waiting in line, and taking turns.

Class Descriptions
Kittens :
Parent-Tot Gymnastics 18 mo. to 3 years old
30 Minute Class
Parents participate in this class by helping to facilitate the directions of the instructor. The tots are encouraged to climb, crawl, hop, roll, walk on beams, and grasp and swing on bars. They will get an opportunity to experience our in-ground foam pits and trampolines. Stations are set up in an obstacle course format to keep the class busy and moving. Simple tasks will be attempted at each station. Each and every attempt the child makes is applauded which encourages positive development. Tot and parent share all of this excitement as they work through each class as partners.

Kubs :
3 year olds - Girls and Boys
45 Minute Class
This is the first class where the children are in class by themselves. Basic gymnastic elements are introduced at this age. Our goal is to expose them to as much as we can while still incorporating social and classroom concepts. Mastery of these skills is not expected. We introduce new skills through different circuits and themes throughout the course of each term. The memory of a 3 year old does not allow us to expect them to remember exactly what was done at each station. But over time and constant repetition, this will improve.

Kats :
4-5 year olds - Girls and Boys
45 Minute Class
With increased attention span and improved strength and flexibility, gymnastic skills are acquired more easily at this age. Improved listening skills accelerate the learning process. Circuits are again used but students will be asked to remember 3-4 different stations. Specific and more difficult skills are introduced.

SuperKats :
4-6 year olds - Girls Only *Invite Only
60 Minute Class
With increased attention span and improved strength and flexibility, gymnastic skills are acquired more easily at this age. Improved listening skills accelerate the learning process. Circuits are again used but students will be asked to remember 3-4 different stations. Specific and more difficult skills are introduced.

What to Wear / What to Do

Let's Talk Safety in the Gym!
Here at Energym we strive to teach your children gymnastics in a fun and safe environment. There are some things you as parents can do to help. We will talk to the children daily about staying safe, but we would also like you to remind them about how to stay safe in the gym.

Proper Attire:
All girls should wear a leotard. No socks or tights, just bare feet. Long hair must be tied back, away from face. No jewelry or hanging earrings. Stud earrings may be worn.
All boys should wear a t-shirt tucked into stretch shorts or sweat pants. No zippers, buckles or snaps.

Before Class:
Arrive 5-10 minutes early so students can be ready before class starts. Remind them they are there to learn and have fun. It is not free time. Talk with your child about staying in line, listening and following directions. Keep all siblings off the equipment and out of unauthorized areas. Please do not allow them to run around viewing areas or to jump off chairs or benches. We want to respect the other family's that are here to view classes.

During Class:
Students must wait for class to start before going on any of the equipment. Absolutely no horseplay or running around in the gym, this if for their safety. Listen and follow the rules of your instructor. Keep your hand to yourself at all times. Child must get permission from instructor to leave group to use the restroom.
